In January 1961, I went to Bible Institute seeking get to know the Word better. I had a wonderful two years studying the Word and being in a Christian environment. The lecturers and students added so much to my life and spiritual growth. So much opened up to me in my spiritual life during this time that I will never forget. I am still in contact with Anna Brown and Felicity Keene (nee Watson). Recently, I got into contact with Ian Kirby-Smith via Facebook and heard that he was a retired pastor whose wife had recently died and has subsequently remarried.
In the last six months of being at BI, I was challenged by the need for someone to be a primary school teacher with the SAGM in Rhodesia at the Rusitu Mission Station, while it was being changed to a secondary system. This was a period of learning on many levels but it was a wonderful two years spent on the Mission Station. The principal, Elmina Doner, was a real inspiration and blessing to me. It was wonderful that I could spend many holidays with Pastor Paul and Ethne Jones in Salisbury, my ex pastor from Uitenhage. (Home from home!)
After this, I went back to Uitenhage and into secular employment. In 1970, my mother and I moved to Pretoria. My brother was also not far in another part of Johannesburg. I got involved in Central Baptist Church where I am happy to serve the Lord today.
